A New Thought

June 24, 2014

These past 2 months of marriage have taught me a thing or two. When I say “taught” I’m referring to gaining new knowledge, skills, that I didn’t have before. I have learned new things.

I now can drive a manual car, I’m getting better each day at my new favorite sport of frisbee golf, not to mention, I’m pretty much a pro at getting Siri to give me any information I ask her to.

David has taught me all these things.

I’ve been thinking lately and I’ve come to the conclusion, and I hope many others can agree, that a sign of a healthy marriage is learning. Not only learning to be patient with one another, to listen, share, and love unconditionally, but learning new games, languages, recipes, and so much more.

I have my own basket of knowledge, hobbies, skills and my husband definitely has his. How could we not grab a few and toss them into one another’s, making our baskets overflow with wisdom, fun games, and just plain silly facts.

It keeps our marriage fun and exciting! I absolutely love discovering and learning new things together but I’m finding that I also love when I am given some new and fresh skill or thought from my favorite guy.

Learning to drive a stick has been the scariest, most thrilling experience. I feel vulnerable, unsafe, and completely incompetent. David is opposite. In a manual vehicle he feels comfortable, at ease, skillful.

Almost every day he looks at me and says “Do you want to drive!?” with not an ounce of fear in his eyes. In an instant I’m able to sink into all that he is, my best friend, my partner, my one, and take on so much more.

Humility and trust is required for learning.

Humility and trust is required for a marriage full of life and love.

Happy Learning!
